SO YOU WANNA BE A DERBY DEMON?
Sign up for a New Recruit Practice to find out if Flat Track Roller Derby is right for you!
In order to get you ready to skate at general practices, our New Recruits must go through a 6-8 week training course. This training course takes you through the basics of skating, roller derby and strategies. Practices are at the Rink on the River (10 N. Skaters must be females aged 21 and over (although younger skaters may be accepted upon Coach/Captain approval). Previous skating experience is preferred, but not necessary. All shapes, sizes and skill levels are welcome!!!
Please bring any equipment you may already have, including quad speed skates, helmets, wrist guards, knee pads and elbow pads. DOWN AND DERBY: About the Sport
It may seem like Women's Flat Track Roller Derby is nothing more than hot chicks slamming into each other at high speeds, but in actuality, the sport is a genuine athletic competition complete with well-defined rules, divisions, tournaments, and a governing body: the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). Not unlike other full-contact sports such as football and hockey, every fall, every hit and every bloodied body part is real. The BBDD do, however, work to train our skaters to play this high-octane sport as safely as possible.
